Boroughbridge AFC
Take a walk down to Aldborough Road on a Saturday afternoon and you’ll find a hive of sporting activity.
Established in 1900, Boroughbridge AFC has been at the heart of the Boroughbridge community for well over 100 years. Twice winners of the prestigious West Riding County Challenge Cup, the first team, led by Daz Ekin and sponsored by local firm John Ellis Builders, ply their trade in the West Yorkshire Premier Division, helping to ensure that Boroughbridge is well represented both across the region and further afield.
During the pre-season preparations earlier this year, ‘Bridge welcomed a representative side from Carlisle United to Aldborough Road, and since then have been flying high in the league – currently pushing for a top four position with a little over a third of the season remaining. In addition, later this month Ekin’s squad will take another step on the road as they look to defend their Whitworth Cup, which they won last season with victory over local rivals Ripon City in the Final.
Also fielding two further sides on a Saturday, a Sunday side and a Veterans team, the Club has something to offer for players of all abilities. Whether you’ve been playing for years, or are new to the game and are looking for a place to get started, Boroughbridge AFC is the place for you. Training takes place on a Wednesday evening, and everyone is invited to go along.
Whilst efforts continue on the pitch, this is also a very busy time for the Club off the pitch. Work is currently ongoing on an extension to the clubhouse which will see the addition of new and improved changing facilities, and also allow an expansion of the bar area. Not only will this enable them to offer an enhanced experience for players at the Club, it will give an improved match day experience for spectators and visitors.
All are welcome to come and watch ‘Bridge’s teams in action, with matches taking place most weekends from 14.30 and entry is free. After the match, the clubhouse offers a well stocked bar, Sky Sports, and free WiFi, not to mention a very warm welcome to all who visit. Regular social events ensure that there is something for everyone, with the Club’s annual Christmas Quiz always extremely popular, and a race night coming up this month to help raise funds for the clubhouse extension. The space is also available to hire for event – so get in touch if you want more details.
Additionally, the Club offers a great way for local businesses to get their name out into the community. The current shirt sponsors include John Ellis Builders, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, the Three Horse Shoes, Reed Boardall, the Black Bull and the Anchor Inn. Packages start from just £40 per season so sponsorship is the great way to advertise your company.
