Mathematical Teaser Answers

The teasers we set in some of our August books were certainly tricky, and we have to thank reader Stokesley Bill for supplying them. The answers are below if you’ve had to admit defeat.

1: £3. The items being purchases were plastic front door numbers.

2: 600. 6 x (73 + 27)

3: Monday

4: BILL. 7718 upside-down.

5: 60. Roman numeral reversed (IV= VI, IX = XI and XL = LX)

6: 90p. The reductions are based on their names. 20p for vowels, 10p for consonants)

7: 7. 2 parents, 4 boys, 1 girl.

8: There were only 3 people. A grandfather with his son and grandson.

9: The digits are in alphabetical order.

10: None. It’s a hole.
