LittleFest Returns

After a successful 2014 the popular LittleFest events, that bring the arts into our streets, are about to return…

There’s a chance you may have already heard about On Our Turf – we mentioned some of their events last year, but for those still in the dark On Our Turf is a new(ish) initiative from York Theatre Royal that aims to showcase arts-based activities across Yorkshire. The mission is simple but ambitious, to engage new audiences, new participants, new artists and new communities.

“After the successful partnerships the last two years have seen, it’s no surprise that the popular LittleFest events will return”

For the towns of Easingwold, Helmsley, Selby and Pocklington, this saw the introduction of the LittleFest events that turned areas, and in some cases, local shops, bars and restaurants, into places that shared poetry, dance and music with the locals.
After the successful partnerships the last two years have seen, it’s no surprise that the popular LittleFest events will return again in 2015 to the same four areas.
The events will feature a large number of free activities for all the family on a number of fun-filled weekends. In addition there will be bespoke ticketed events created by each of the four towns. Pocklington’s turn is set for the 24-26 April and you can expect a weekend full of art trails, exhibitions and pop up performances – as well as the very first community production by the newly established Pocklington Productions.
If you fancy doing the full tour then the dates of the other events are: Selby on 16 May, Helmsley over 25-27 September, and, lastly, Easingwold on 3-4 October.
You can keep up to date with the various goings on at each of the locations via the What’s On pages at www.onourturf.co.uk/littlefest or, alternatively, over on Twitter via @YorkTheatre and the hashtag #LittleFest. They are always looking for more folk to get involved, so if you are keen to showcase your talent or volunteer then why not get in touch with them (details on the website) and see if you can contribute.
