Pocklington Arts Centre 2017

Pock’s upgraded Arts Centre is going from strength to strength and is bringing in more people than ever to enjoy what’s on offer…

We’ve been finding out from the management team what has been going on recently and what the future holds. “Pocklington Arts Centre’s recent refurbishment has not only proved hugely popular with customers and performers but also with local businesses and community groups. The venue has secured several long-term bookings with Wolds Photographic Society, Wright Gardening and Robin Small’s Documentary Film Lecture series in addition to hires from organisations such as East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Humberside Fire Service and several local schools. The venue’s new first floor bar, which is now open every weekend, has also secured several birthday party and christenings bookings into 2017.

“The feedback and interest in the venue since the refurbishment has been very positive and we are extremely pleased to have secured some long-term bookings alongside our regular weekly and monthly sessions with the Vintage Tractor and Steam Engine Association, Ed Sumner’s Cheese and Wine Painting Club, Forgotten Voices Community Choir and Wolds Wonders – a musical theatre group for adults with physical and learning disabilities” says Janet Farmer, Venue Manager.

Andy Wragg of the Wolds Photographic Society, a new ‘tenant’ explains “As an ‘arts’ related Society we are delighted to have been able to secure the refurbished Oak Room on the First Floor for our weekly meetings. The new facilities and equipment are first class, staff really friendly, and of course the availability of the bar an added bonus to our members, all of whom have been extremely impressed with the venue.” Another Arts Centre user, Robin Small, former lecturer at Huddersfield and York St John Universities is also impressed by the upgraded site “The new Oak Room is an excellent venue for talks, exhibitions, small meetings, and film screenings. This is a wonderful new addition to the Arts Centre and I would highly recommend a visit and you will not be disappointed with what is an excellent facility for clubs, individuals and business.”

PAC held an Open Morning in November for members of the public to view the space as well as staging a similar event in the evening for local businesses and schools. At these events, the venue screened a promotional video it commissioned via funding from Arts Council England, this can be seen on its social media accounts and website.

The venue’s live event programme proved a big hit in the autumn with six sold out events: Jeremy Hardy, Miss Saigon, Joe Brown, Rob Beckett, Lesley Garrett and Punchline Comedy Club.
